Vol. II [LP]

Ely Combo - Vol. II [LP]

Saxophonist Eliseo Pech came from a Yucatán family steeped in music and settled in Quintana Roo near the Belize border, where ska and reggae drifted in. His early-'70s band Ely Combo, joined by Belizean singer Anthony Jones, became one of the first Mexican groups to take on Jamaican rhythms, a true oddity in Latin American music of the era. Their second album, from 1974, is loaded with Jamaican songs drawn from the repertoires of Boris Gardiner, Eric Donaldson and Byron Lee & the Dragonaires, among others.

A vinyl LP reissue from Vampisoul.
