Alan Loveday/Academy of St. Martin in the Fields/Sir Neville Marriner - Vivaldi: The Four Seasons (Decca Pure Analogue Series) [LP]

This 1969 recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and Sir Neville Marriner, the most recorded orchestra/conductor partnership in history, remains as fresh and bursting with new ideas as it did when it first came out. Alan Loveday’s wonderfully stylish violin solos and Simon Preston’s imaginative continuo realization on harpsichord and organ make this one of the most musically satisfying “Seasons” on record. Recorded by Argo at St. John’s, Smith Square, London in September 1969, by the classic combination of producer Michael Bremner and balance engineer Stanley Goodall. Decca Pure Analogue Series is mastered by Rainer Maillard and cut by Sidney C. Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios. Hand-numbered, limited editions, pressed on 180g vinyl in deluxe gatefold jackets. Only original analogue sources are used, and no extra devices are utilized in the signal pass.
