Sextant [Red & Blue Marble LP]

Herbie Hancock - Sextant [Red & Blue Marble LP]

Sextant, from 1973, is the boldest of Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi albums and his first for Columbia. With his adventurous sextet plus synthesist Patrick Gleeson, Hancock fuses spacey electric jazz, African rhythms and early ARP and Moog synthesizers into something wholly futuristic, from the bubbling "Rain Dance" to the sprawling, side-long "Hornets". It points straight to the jazz-funk breakthrough of Head Hunters.

Limited 180-gram red and blue marbled vinyl from Music On Vinyl, a Holland import pressing.
