Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 & 8 [CD]

Antonina Suhanova – Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 & 8 [CD]

On her debut album, Latvian pianist Antonina Suhanova takes on Sergei Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas Nos. 6, 7 and 8, the so-called War Sonatas, composed between 1939 and 1944. They are not programmatic war music, but they reflect an era of political oppression, existential threat and the upheaval of World War II.

Among the most demanding works in the repertoire, they mark a high point of 20th-century piano writing. Suhanova combines stylistic command and sonic imagination, drawing out both their dramatic force and their lyrical, deeply human side. On CD from Prospero Classical.

Genre: Classical, Piano.
