Bantou Jazz - Guajira Guantanamera / Guajira [7"]

This strictly limited two-song 45 rpm 7-inch is a teaser for Planet Ilunga's upcoming double LP El Son De Congo, dedicated to the Congolese labels Cefa and Tcheza run by musician and label pioneer Roger Izeidi. Both songs come from Congo-Brazzaville's iconic Bantou Jazz (later Les Bantous de la Capitale).

"Guajira Guantanamera," originally on CEFA 510, is a wild guapacha-rhythm take on the Cuban evergreen, recorded in Brussels in November 1961 and arranged by clarinetist and vocalist Jean-Serge Essous. The flip side, "Guajira," from the same sessions, is Essous' Congolese rendition of René Touzet's Cuban classic "Mi Guajira," originally on CEFA 531.
