Figlia del Sole: Italian Baroque Heroines [CD]

Catherine Trottmann - Figlia del Sole: Italian Baroque Heroines [CD]

Cleopatra, Berenice, Candace: the queens and heroines of ancient Egypt fired the imagination of Baroque opera, bringing powerful, passionate women to the stage amid love, ambition and political rivalry. From Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto to Hasse and Vivaldi, the Nile inspired some of the era's most virtuosic arias.

Catherine Trottmann gives voice to these sovereign women in a recording made beneath the gilded splendour of Versailles. Single CD on Château de Versailles Spectacles.
