Goon Moon - Dream 3 [LP]

This Record Began Basically As A Reaction To Hour Of Green Evening. I Wanted To Make Something That Blended The Sound Of That Record And The Way It Was Made (Live Tracked, Band-In-A-Room Feel) With More Of The Haphazard, Intuitive, 4-Track Cassette, Homemade Style That Is Characteristic Of Many Goon Recordings. I Became Even More Interested In Processing Sounds In A Way That Would Impart More Grain And Draw Out More Personality. At The Beginning, It Seemed Like The Best Way To Proceed Was To Do It Fully Ourselves, But It Became Clear That We'D Need A Studio To At Least Just Get Some Drum Sounds. So We Started Working With Claire Morison At Her Studio Wild Horizon Sound And What Was Intended To Be A Couple Days Of Drum Tracking Turned Into Making The Entire Record Together. She Was Equally Excited By This Process-Oriented Concept I Had Been Envisioning And I Feel That Our Creative Collaboration Yielded A Result That Was True To The Spirit Of Letting Excitement And Experimentation Be Our Guides. We Tracked Some Songs In A More Unconventional Way, Spending Copious Hours Printing Effects And Bouncing Things Down To Tape In Almost Gratuitous Fashion, But Also Recorded Many Things Live With The Bandmates Or Overdubbed With Them (Which We Would Then Also Process And Bounce Down With The Same Eagerness). When I Painted The Album Art, I Wanted To Embody The Same Approach We Took To Recording. I Ended Up Painting A Bunch Of Smaller Still Lifes And Landscapes, Random Objects, Animals, Things That Were Relevant To The Record, And Then Cut Them Out And Arranged Them Like Stickers On A Larger Canvas.
