Much journeyed Rotterdam indie-rock quintet Tramhaus return with news of sophomore album Blister. Pushing Tramhaus forwards is their gang mentality, and core belief that a network of global friendships patiently built up over the last five years will see them right. Blister marks the band's first new music since the release of celebrated 2024 debut The First Exit. Powerful, loud, and assertive, Blister grows with repeated listening. And a satisfying assurance: the record has a sleekness, and a tangible sense of space, and power. This comes in part from a glossier production that picks up many nuances inbetween. The dizzying nature of constant travel of almost two years is reflected in the title of impatient opener \"Plovdiv\" (a place they've played, incidentally): the glam stomp and bouncing bassline propel a number of menacing guitar riffs, all echoing the sound Tramhaus have been destroying venues with recently. Further e.g. \"Rat Race\" and \"I was Never Alone\" sound likewise. The slower tracks on the record sometimes reveal a \"rockist\" grandeur that they only hinted at before: Pixies or late-period Nirvana maybe, (even, gasp), or a low whisper of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds somewhere else. \"Overachiever, Big Believer\" and \"Sly (Like Ever)\" have caustic, growly natures and patiently mapped out melody lines, both of which would have fitted in very nicely indeed back in 1991. Elsewhere, \"Solace,\" with its open chord strum, has a swagger that could have been plucked from a Saints or a Bad Seeds track. Best is saved to last with \"Swarm,\" where, after a monolithic early Pere Ubu bass rumble, a glorious Sabbath-like riff crashes over the listener. Now it's your turn to not miss the second album proper of these rightly left of the dial Netherlanders.\n01. Plovdiv\n02. Cluster\n03. The Answer?\n04. Sly (Live Ever)\n05. Solace\n06. Recoil\n07.
