The band's origins trace back to\ntheir teenage years, when a shared passion for classic and vintage\nmusic brought them together. What began as informal late night\nhard rock sessions in a small garage gradually evolved into the\nmusical foundation that defines the band today. While performing\non the Amsterdam live music circuit, the duo met Eszl de Vois, an\nestablished bass player in the underground psychedelic scene whose\npassion for unconventional jazz fit the band like a glove.\nHeavily inspired by Emerson, Lake \u0026amp; Palmer, the band adopted\nthe name \"Gates of Kiev,\" taken from the iconic piece featured on\nthe live album Pictures at an Exhibition. Taking further inspiration\nfrom the modern local garage and punk scene as well as the early\nyears of 70s prog bands, Gates of Kiev's live shows evolved into a\nhigh energy and intense performance. Loud, fast, and over the top.\nThe band's songs are long and mostly instrumental. The lyrics\nthey do have cover both very personal struggles as societal topics,\ndelivered in a whimsical and sometimes direct way. The dynamics\nand atmosphere within the instrumental parts are closely tied to the\nthemes of the songs, trying to set a story without words.\nThe album was mixed and mastered by White Willow's Jacob\nHolm-Lupo in Norway. Cover art comes courtesy of Italian heavy\npsych illustrator Mont Doom.\nGates Of Kiev is a progressive rock band founded in\nthe Netherlands by childhood friends, organist Tomas Mesman\nand drummer Hessel Braat.
