Harmonic and inharmonic\novertones, sympathetic vibrations, rhythmic\nproportions, and resonant room acoustics are all\nparameters of an emerging musical form explored\nthrough Chen, Atwal, and Layton’s intuitive\napproach to spontaneous composition.\nLayton’s unique instrument, the 17-\nstring electric bass, is played in a variety of tunings and\nfunctions almost like an amplified Greek Lyre (or\nmaybe a Baroque electric Theorbo), running\nthrough heavy fuzz, distortion, and ring\nmodulation, while Chen explores the interior of an\namplified grand piano, producing rich\nconstellations of expanded sound clusters, and\nthe percussive attack of the hammers as they\nstrike the strings, running through a Rat distortion\ncircuit. Atwal’s drumming grounds it all through\nfluid cycles of hypnotic pulsation and propulsive\nmotion that contributes to a hypnotic and\nsensitive and tactile sense of temporal structure.\nRecorded between 2024 and 2026 at Layton’s\nstudio in New York’s Hudson Valley, the material\non the Enneads’ debut self-titled record is a\ndistillation of the trio’s approach towards\nimprovisation. Throughout the album, harmonics\ndrift into slowly beating patterns, while dreamy\nreverberant atmospheres evolve into dense\nlayers of distorted harmonics, recalling the\ngravitational pull of doom metal within the context\nof experimental music and contemporary jazz.\nThe first and last tracks on the album were\nslowed down after recording, exploring practices\npioneered by Pauline Oliveros, Terry Riley, (and\nDJ Screw) revealing temporal and harmonic\nrelationships within the musical landscape.\"\nA1. eidos A2. metanoia A3. logos A4. ananke B1. pathos B2. kairos B3. apeiron","brand":"Enneads","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":48974651556057,"sku":"634457272583","price":30.0,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0586\/0468\/3425\/files\/201375141969.jpg?v=1784337077","url":"https:\/\/drownedworldrecords.com\/en-ca\/products\/enneads-lp","provider":"Drowned World Records","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
