The Slackers began playing\nlive in 1991, and by 1996 had self-released a\nstring of cassette tapes and built a solid local\naudience in the thriving 90s NYC ska scene.\nHowever, Better Late Than Never was undeniably\na turning point for the band. Five years in, the band\nhad written their strongest material to date, with\nthe influence of traditional Jamaican ska more\nprominent than in their earlier work. Combined\nwith the band’s other diverse influences, it was\ntruly the birth of The Slackers’ signature sound, as\nfans worldwide recognize it today.\nTracks like the sleazy, smoky blues croon of\n“Sarah” and the driving, masterful “Sooner or\nLater” remain fan-favorites and fixtures of live\nsets to this very day. The tracks were laid for the\nband’s trajectory during these fruitful sessions at\nBrooklyn’s Coyote Studios, with production by\nthe band’s longtime collaborator Victor\nRice...decades before he won his Latin\nGrammys!
